Latest Article on Re-Shoring (Returning Manufacturing to America):
To help companies decide where to source production, Harry Moser has developed software that compares the total cost of producing here versus overseas. It’s available free at www.reshorenow.com.
“A week ago, I took the last seven cases where a user compared China to the U.S., using real data,” Moser said. Comparing just the cost of producing the item, the United States cost about 42 percent more than producing in China, he said.
But when adding in items such as transportation, tariffs and the added costs of inventory, innovation and producing half a world away, the U.S. was only 23 percent higher.
Using the services of organizations like TechSolve, which help manufacturers lower their costs, manufactures can narrow the gap even more, he said.
Big companies can use Moser’s software to decide where to source their products. Small suppliers can use it as a sales tool to convince their big customers that they can be competitive, Moser said.
